Homes, commercial, and government structures
are more airtight than ever. This may save energy, but it also
confines moisture and mold spores. The molds germinate and grow
on moist surfaces. The US EPA lists mold dangers bluntly: "...exposure to molds
can cause symptoms such as nasal stuffiness, eye irritation, wheezing,
or skin irritation. Some people, such as those with serious allergies
to molds, may have more severe reactions. Severe reactions may
occur among workers exposed to large amounts of molds in occupational
settings, such as farmers working around moldy hay. Severe reactions
may include fever and shortness of breath. Some people with chronic
lung illnesses, such as obstructive lung disease, may develop mold
infections in their lungs." These mold health issues require
cleanup of the mold problem and killing the mold to eliminate the
toxic mold health effects. There are over 46,000 species of molds,
including black, green, white, and more.
When black mold inspection reveals the fungus
infection, dry
ice blasting is the most efficient and cost-effective
mold remediation process. Dry ice blasting
- removes and kills mold fast in one pass--smaller
crew, less job time
- leaves no waste to clean up
- kills mold and spores on contact
- removes fungus "hyphae" (the "roots" that
comprise the mycelium) and wood softened by them
- gets into tight corners and voids with minimal
labor
- safe for the environment
- leaves no dangerous odor or residue
- eliminates aftereffects from disinfectants
such as high-strength ozone
- long hose from blasting unit easily reaches
into attics and crawl spaces
- dry ice blasting machine can even be on different
floor of building
- safer for remediation operators
- no need to move furniture and appliances out
of the way
- no need for labor-intensive sealing off work
area with plastic film
- no hazmat disposal labor and expense for used
plastic film and residue cleanup
- no need for disposable coveralls and HEPA-filtered
respirators
- no need for expensive negative-air systems
in work area
- no messy, smelly chemical fungicide applications
- no laborious sanding of mold-infested surfaces,
and
- cleans HVAC equipment and ductwork, too, without
extensive dismantling.
